World’s first on-line guided wave radar integrity testing 20 March 2014

The world's first on-line guided wave radar (GWR) level monitoring transmitter and probe testing system has been released by Emerson Process Management.

The Verification Reflector, now available with the Rosemount 5300 GWR transmitters, is designed for applications requiring periodical transmitter integrity tests to prevent overfill risk.

The device enables integrity testing without raising the fluid level in the vessel to the alarm point or having to climb the tank to remove the device for testing. Instead, integrity testing is performed without stopping the process – so saving time and improving safety.

The Verification Reflector uses an adjustable reference reflector fitted to the probe of the guided wave radar. During commissioning, the location and amplitude characteristics of the reflector are stored in the transmitter so that when the test procedure is initiated, the stored reflector data can be compared to the current measurement to achieve verification.
