Laser vibrometer shakes up non-contact vibration measurement 28 February 2014

Maintenance engineers concerned about condition monitoring on applications, such as fans, electric motors and pumps are being courted by SKF, following its launch of a laser vibrometer.

Dubbed MSL-7000, this digital device is claimed to offer service engineers a flexible and robust tool for collecting vibration data without the usual limitations.

Werner Palmetshofer, general manager at the condition monitoring centre in Steyr, Austria, says the design is easy to integrate into test set-ups and control systems, and covers acoustic measurements from 0.2 Hz (for slow rotations) up to 22 kHz.

"The SKF laser vibrometer can help [engineers] who need advanced and flexible vibration measurement, regardless of whether they are doing retrofitted quality inspection or vibration measurement in difficult locations," he says.

SKF says the device was developed to be used independently for end-of-line inspection or, together with SKF condition monitoring equipment, such as its Microlog portable data collection instruments.
