Honeywell forms advanced automation business unit 10 February 2011

Following its acquisition of Matrikon, Honeywell has launched an organisation that, it says, is focused on providing advanced open software and services to the process industries.

Ian Brown, vice president of Advanced Solutions, explains that Honeywell's solutions now enable users in everything from mining to chemicals and petrochemicals to better control and optimise their processes, get better plant information and make faster decisions at the business level.

"Process companies are increasingly demanding solutions that can work with any control system or application seamlessly across the enterprise," explains Brown.

"With Matrikon's track record for open connectivity, agility and innovation, and Honeywell's lifecycle protection and reputation for project execution and products, customers can now get best-in-class solutions," he adds.

Brown says that the business unit will cover Honeywell's traditional stamping ground of advanced process control and optimisation, process design simulation and operator training simulation. However, it will also extend to everything from production execution and operational excellence, to energy efficiency, compliance, and even industrial and cyber security.
