Genie super boom shines Swedish windows fast27 November 2014

Swedish contractor V Städ is reporting success using a Genie SX-180 self-propelled telescopic super boom lift, instead of a truck-mounted platform to clean windows on the Lindholmen building in Citadellen.

The company hired the equipment from lifting and access rental firm Kranpunkten for the applications, which required a machine combining a horizontal reach of 24 m above a line of trees, with the ability to reach top floor windows at a height of 25 m.

V Städ team member Thomas Hallberg says that during the three-day process, it was also crucial to leave the road in front of the building open to traffic.

Kranpunkten sales manager Gunnar Ramstedt says that for this kind of project, a truck-mounted platform would cost €250.00 an hour, including driver.

"But with the SX-180 there is no need for a driver, which is a significant saving that speaks for itself," says Ramstedt.

Transported to site on a standard trailer and set up at the roadside, the equipment has a narrow profile and low tail swing, even with full counterweight in place – meaning it can work within a tight radius.

Not only can it reach horizontally to 24.4 m, but it also telescopes fast – in this case, clearing the trees rapidly to reach the top windows of the building with ease.

"Our customer's operator was already fully certified, so he was in full control of the SX-180 and completed the task on his own confidently and efficiently," states Ramstedt.

"For us, the SX-180 was certainly our best alternative for this job. In addition to reducing costs, our operator was also impressed by its smooth precision and found it surprisingly stable and fast to operate for a unit in this category," comments Hallberg.

"The windows will need cleaning next spring, so we'll definitely be using the SX-180 again."
