Celeros Flow Technology Danflo axial surge The Danflo axial surge relief control valve from M&J Valve combines a quick response time with high flow capacity, making it suitable for surge control applications

Celeros Flow Technology’s M&J Valve portfolio now offers the Danflo axial surge relief flow control valve, which protects pipelines, pumps and other devices from transient surge overpressures.

Applications include oil, gas or liquid pipelines, tanker terminals, metering systems, injection and recovery systems, pump station by-pass and underground storage installations.

Surge pressure is defined as the rapid change in pipeline pressure caused by a change of flow rate in the liquid pipeline. Surge events can be triggered simply by closing a valve too quickly. The resulting pressure surge travels at sonic velocities through the pipeline, reaching speeds of up to 1000 m/s. It can cause severe infrastructure damage, loss of product and environmental harm, as well as posing a significant risk to personnel safety.

Danflo surge relief valves (SRV) are said to offer a quick response time and high flow capacity, making them ideally suited to surge control applications. These valves are engineered to track unabated surge-wave pressure transient: opening quickly, then closing without slamming shut.

The valve features an axial "straight-path" smooth flow pattern and has a large annular flow area for high pressure recovery, low pressure drop and high flow coefficients. It achieves surge control by loading the plug cavity from a regulated nitrogen source. A line pressure surge above the nitrogen set pressure opens the valve. Transient surge pressure is thereby reduced as the extra surge volume is relieved. The plug then tracks line pressure until equilibrium is re-established and the valve closes.

The nitrogen-operated Danflo SRV is suited to dirty service, such as crude oil and sea water pipelines. A pilot-operated alternative is also available for clean service applications.

Designed and manufactured by M&J Valve in Houston, Texas, the Danflo SRV is available in line sizes 2"-16", class 150-900, with various low noise and cavitation trim options. A compact control module, comprising a control panel, bottle rack and plenum, is also available.

Danflo SRVs and control modules can be specified as individual units or supplied as a single- or multi-run skid systems.

The Danflo surge relief valve combines with a predictive pressure rate of rise system to allow pre-emptive action against a developing surge event, supporting condition monitoring and preventive maintenance regimes.

M&J Valve offers lifecycle support for customers of the OEM surge flow valves and systems. Options include modular and customisable skid construction, engineering design services, installation and commissioning and maintenance services.
