Maintenance means business01 February 2006

Maintec 2006 promises everything for today's maintenance professional, whether in industry, commerce or the public sector. It takes place from 14-16 March at the NEC, Birmingham.

The event is a showcase for suppliers of maintenance equipment and services: whether you need the latest condition monitoring systems and maintenance management software, advice on anything from health & safety compliance to getting the best from your boiler, or tailored training courses to upskill your workforce.

For example, with gas and electricity prices still soaring, every type of business is looking for ways to save energy costs and improve energy efficiency. A major new feature at this year's Maintec will be Combustion Alley, where the Combustion Engineering Association (CEA) and its members will be showing boilers, burners, steam equipment and controls and how to make the best use of them. Exhibitors will include BIB Cochran, Byworth Boilers, Driezler/Heatsol, Mobrey Measurement, Saacke, Weishaupt UK and Wellman Robey.

Training company WATA will be at the event; the firm offers multi-skilling training to NVQ levels 2 & 3 and has successfully trained 300 engineers over the past 10 years. WATA specialises in delivering mechanical and electrical training, including the new Part P Building Regulations Certificate, and in coordinate apprentice and trainee programmes.

Eurosafe Solutions will be demonstrating its Latchways Mansafe system, which solves working at height issues. Eurosafe's service extends from initial consultation/survey through estimation, engineering, CAD design, end user training, and annual test and inspection services.

Back on solid ground, safety underfoot is equally important. The Versatile Flooring Company will be exhibiting a range of products, including EcoTile 7mm PVC interlocking floor tiles which can be dry laid over any hard surface, making them ideal for quick and easy installation over damaged, dusty or contaminated floors. The range includes SureGrip, a range of fibreglass anti-slip stair treads, platforms, ramps and gratings. SureGrip and EcoTile are resistant to oils and chemicals.

Protective workwear is an essential element of health and safety across many sectors: this year, for the first time, Uniforms & Workwear will be exhibiting at Maintec. As the name suggests, the company supplies a wide range of workwear, including safety boots, polo shirts, fleeces and high visibility PPE. The company also offers in-house branding services.

Thermal imaging equipment is again strongly represented at Maintec this year. Land Instruments will be demonstrating its compact Land Guide M4, the smallest thermal imager available, with a measurement range of -20 to 250C, with sensitivity of 0.12C. Flir Systems will be exhibiting a range of products including the new ThermaCAM P50F and P25F cameras. These are pupose built, with superior performance in high temperatures. The detector and optics have been designed specifically for temperatures exceeding 300C; four ranges are selectable up to 1500C.

And last but not least, there will be a selection of maintenance software suppliers. Shire Systems, for example, offers a range of solutions and will be featuring its new handheld applications for auditing and maintenance.
