Having realised that the objectives of the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE) are:
To provide relevant learned society activities to enable our members to update the technical know-how and to furnish a platform to meet our relevant counterparts for better connections. As a professional body to let our members be duly qualified/registered. As there is a reciprocal recognition agreement (RRA) between the SOE and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Control, Automation and Instrumentation (CAI) discipline, it could be motivative and in the interests for HKIE members to join the SOE and vice versa.
This would mean that members could have Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the UK and Registered Professional Engineer (RPE) in Hong Kong.
In order to enhance the connection with the HKIE, there was a dialogue with SOE Executive Director Emma Thompson, which was very positive and will see IPlantE be a supporting organisation for the Summit with the title ‘CA Engineers Linking AI, Low Attitude Economy…’.
The Summit will take place at the Jockey Club Campus of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) on 13 May 2025, without any financial commitment.
I occupy the roles as IPlantE PSC Chair and the HKIE Control, Automation and Instrumentation Division (CAD) Chair. It is hoped that more qualified professionals can join us at the Summit. More information about the Summit will be released in due course.
More information about the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) can be found by visiting www.hkie.org.hk/en.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue of Operations Engineer.
