Oil analysis service reduces machinery downtime 11 July 2014
To help plant managers tackle the problem of contaminated oil causing hydraulic system failures, Bosch Rexroth has launched an oil analysis service.
Chris Gray, filtration product manager for Bosch Rexroth, claims that it will allow service and maintenance engineers to spot potential issues early and avoid costly repairs and production downtime.
The new service will provide results within 48 hours and includes an online portal enabling engineers to track and trend results over time, in order to predict and prevent issues.
"With more than 30 years' experience designing, manufacturing and servicing hydraulic systems and components, we are well aware of the consequences if contaminated oil goes undetected," insists Gray.
"For many maintenance and production engineers, there simply isn't the time and resource needed to conduct the regular checks needed to identify issues before it becomes too late," he continues.
"The result can range from pump failure to problems with servo drives and malfunctioning valves, which cause unplanned machinery downtime and potentially costly repairs or the need to replace components entirely."
Gray cites contaminants as including welding residue and solid particles that enter via piston rods or poor seals and vents – or can be generated during the working life of a drive via seal abrasion or chemical erosion.
"With our new oil analysis service, we're effectively taking responsibility for the health of a machine in a bid to ensure that it is available 100" of the time," he enthuses.
