Weg acquires Watt Drive, starts JV with Cestari 17 November 2011
Motors and drives specialist Weg has acquired Austrian firm Watt Drive Antriebstechnik, which designs and manufactures gearboxes, gear motors, drives and control systems.
Weg states that the acquisition is all about offering what the industry want, in terms of power transmission solutions that integrate electric motors, frequency inverters and gearboxes.
"Our strategy is to offer a complete portfolio of products and solutions," comments Siegfried Kreutzfeld, Weg Motors managing director. "On doing so, we become more flexible to supply our customers' needs and expand the company business."
Much the same reasoning is apparently behind Weg's new joint venture with Cestari Industrial, which is aimed at developing, manufacturing and distributing gearboxes and gear motors also for power transmission.
Weg has acquired a 50%-plus-one-share of the joint venture company based on Cestari's assets – and Kreutzfeld expects the move to "significantly contribute to Weg's growth in the power transmission business".
