Video explores role of chemical dosing in papermaking14 October 2020

The new video (www.is.gd/zerupe) features St Cuthbert’s Mill, a master papermaker with a heritage that can be traced back to the 1700s.

Based near Wells in Somerset, the company specialises in the manufacture of high-quality artists’ papers and produces about 80t of paper per month. It uses Watson Marlow Fluid Technology Group Qdos peristaltic pumps for a range of metering duties in the wet end of its 24/7 papermaking operation.

Paul Tremlett, the company’s shift manager, states: “To have success, you have to be consistent in all the grades you make. For us to have consistency and a quality product going out the door, we need to have trust in what we use.

The company adds that pumps have a significant role in ensuring product consistency. Precise control over metering pigments and starches minimises the chance of imperfections in paper quality, resulting in higher output. Assured processing uptime is equally important in maximising production value. Dependable, low maintenance pumping equipment aids daily operation and maintenance cycles while supporting a complete production process.

According to WMFTG, the papermaker saved thousands of pounds due to precise shade and chemical addition control and reduction in downtime associated with a previously-deployed pump.
