UPS for harsh industrial working environments19 November 2015
Eaton has launched a next generation industrial UPS designed to withstand harsh working conditions and secure the reliability of critical systems in demanding marine, rail and process industry environments.
The new heavy duty UPS features a highly sophisticated core and modular design to deliver market leading efficiency and optimised operating costs, without compromising on reliability or safety.
“For many of our customers a reliable power source is the cornerstone of safe operations in harsh and exceptionally challenging working environments. Taking shortcuts when it comes to safety isn’t an option, but at the same time companies need to keep a close eye on the overall cost of their operations.” Kalle Roselli, product manager, Eaton EMEA, said. “The 9PHD is both strong and efficient, offering over 96 per cent efficiency in double conversion mode and 99 per cent when operating in Eaton’s Energy Saver System (ESS) mode. This, together with the unit’s high configurability and scalability, helps us to meet our customer’s specific power requirements and ensure the continuity of their businesses.”
The 9PHD is available in a power range from 40kVA to 200kVA and comes in two frame sizes depending on the required power and transformer configuration. As the UPS is highly adaptable, it can be adjusted to suit a wide range of industries. With ingress protection available up to IP54, it is built to endure harsh working environments and has undergone testing to withstand seismic and high vibration conditions. The new industrial UPS has a small footprint and is available with internal transformer options, making it ideal for use in monitoring, safety and control, and production applications.
As UPS units are often located in production areas that are difficult to access, especially in remote locations such as oil rigs, installation and servicing can be challenging. For this reason, the Eaton 9PHD has a modular structure to provide for easier installation and maintenance. It offers convenient front access and ample interior cable connection space to support quick cable termination and even the use of double cables if required. Additional features, such as lifting lugs and wheels, make the heavy duty units easier to handle during installation, removal and servicing.
