Secondary packaging company TrakRap has won the ‘Best Manufacturing Technology’ award at the World Food Innovation Awards.

The annual awards, held at ExCeL London, are open to entrants from all over the world. The 2020 awards saw entries from more than 20 countries across 28 categories, with TrakRap winning its category against competitors from France, the United States and China.

The firm won the award for its TrakRap Packaging System, a combination of its environmentally friendly packaging machine and pack designs that are said to provide cost effective secondary packaging solutions for UK food and drink manufacturers.

OE highlighted the machine last year. The Industry-4.0 enabled system eliminates the use of heat from the packaging process using an ultra-thin stretch film to ‘cold wrap’ products instead.

TrakRap CEO Martin Leeming said: “We’re over the moon to have scooped our first award of 2020 and particularly happy that it is a World Food Innovation Award, one of the most sought-after prizes the food and drink industry has to offer. Receiving international recognition for our packaging System and the benefits it delivers is something we could only have dreamed of a few years ago. If food manufacturers are serious about reducing the amount of packaging they use and minimising their carbon footprint, they need to adopt new eco-innovations to help fight climate change as a matter of urgency.”
