Thorite control system speeds production at Flameproofings 01 June 2012
Flame retardant coatings manufacturer Flameproofings is reporting improved quality and cost reductions since securing Thorite to produce a system to integrate pump controls and run batch and level controls for two padder tanks that contain the water and chemical mix.
Thorite designed a control panel with on/off switching for three existing electric pumps and a panel mounted batch controller by Burkert, which provides the precise mix of coating fluid.
Mike Fisher, Flameproofings' site maintenance engineer, explains that this, in turn, was wired to other Burkert products including a quarter inch BSP flow fitting, sensor and solenoid valve.
Thorite also provided two bespoke stainless steel twin float-level sensors, which control the operation of a pair of Burkert solenoid valves mounted on the lines feeding the padder tanks, he says.
These valves maintain the level in the tanks to ensure good coverage of coating rollers. The system is configured so that only one of the tanks is fed at any time.
"Thorite's control system and associated fittings have centralised and automated a number of processes that were previously manually operated," comments Fisher.
"This centralisation enables us to save significant time in the coating process while noticeably improving quality control," he adds.
