Sochi hospital sources medical air from Atlas Copco 19 February 2014
Hospital facilities beefed up to serve the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi have been equipped with Atlas Copco compressors to deliver medical air.
Surgical Hospital No 6 – a six-storey building with two operating theatres, as well as emergency, intensive care and laboratories – was opened in June 2013 in readiness for the games.
Health officials selected Atlas Copco's medical air plant cAIR-1800DG and medical vacuum plant mVAC-1000T to provide 100% pure medical air to the surgical and emergency rooms.
Installation of the system was carried out by Atlas Copco's medical air division regional distributor, Aral Engineering, with project management by Giprozdrav.
"The selection process was very strict and proposals were submitted by a number of different manufacturers," states chief engineer Shkarev Igor Pavlovitch.
"First of all we paid attention to basic parameters such as reliability, durability and high performance. We also sought the opinion of our colleagues from other clinics that use central medical air plants," he continues.
"Another reason we chose Atlas Copco was because they offered staff training from an Atlas Copco service engineer."
Atlas Copco's medical air plant is based on ultra-reliable, medical grade compressors and dryers designed to provide an uninterrupted air supply for critical installations.
If the central controller fails, every element of the system has its own controller. Hence its certification to international regulations, including Pharmacopoeia and quality norms such as ISO 13485.
