Single point load cells support accuracy for blenders 01 June 2010
TSM Control Systems of Dundalk in Ireland is using HBM's single point load cells to ensure high accuracy in its range of weigh blending systems.
The units use a single HBM SP4M load cell to measure up to 12 components, such as plastic granules, against recipe data, before blending the mix to produce food wrap plastics in batches weighing from 0.5kg to 32kg.
Michael McKiernan, design engineer at TSM Control Systems, explains that accurate blend ratios and consistent batch homogeneity are important for blenders. Hence the requirement for a highly accurate and reliable load cell that can deliver the performance required to meet its customers' expectations.
"We like the open construction of the SP4 load cells, since there are no guards. This prevents granules from getting lodged around the load cell which is a big advantage when working with plastic granules," says McKiernan.
