SARB3 goes for Amarinth AP 610 super-duplex pumps 24 September 2014
ADMA-OPCO ha awarded a contract to centrifugal pumps specialist Amarinth to supply 16 API 610 super-duplex pumps, some of which will be self-priming, for use on the SARB3 (Satah al-Razboot) project.
The contract covers A-series and C-series configuration pumps to be used on plant duties including fire water supply and diesel transfer.
Four of the pumps will lift sea water to the rigs, with self-priming ensuring that pumps cannot run dry. Amarinth has chosen to deploy an innovative vacuum technology to prime the pumps before operation.
Oliver Brigginshaw, managing director of Amarinth, explains that when the pump is turned on the vacuum priming unit will be activated, lifting the sea water to the pump.
The vacuum unit is then switched off as soon as the pump has built up discharge pressure, using an integrated pressure switch.
Using this vacuum technology enables the system to operate remotely with no services other than power, an important requirement for this new field development, he says.
"Having worked with ADMA-OPCO on previous projects, we already had an intimate understanding of its specifications, so we were able to provide a great deal of flexibility in scheduling the build and supply of these pumps," comments Brigginshaw.
The SARB field is 200km northwest of Abu Dhabi, with drilling conducted from two artificial islands. It is expected to add an additional 100,000 barrels per day of oil to the oil production capacity of UAE when commissioned in 2016.
