Programme to create green jobs in East of England 24 October 2012
A £2.25 million business support programme for manufacturing start-ups and SMEs has been launched by IfM Education and Consultancy Services (), part of the Institute for Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge.
Its avowed aim is to create more than 140 new jobs and safeguard many more while also help companies take a sustainable approach to business.
IfM ECS programme – dubbed Practical and Innovative Solutions for Manufacturing Sustainability (PrISMS) – has been granted funding from the European Development Fund until 30 June 2015.
Dr Derek Ford, who heads the IfM ECS's team supporting SMEs and start-up companies, says that it will provide fully-funded support for 50 start-ups and 70 manufacturing SMEs throughout the East of England to help them increase profits, reduce costs and minimise their impact on the environment.
"We have worked with hundreds of SME manufacturers over the last 10 years, developing practical ways to help them improve their businesses and develop the capabilities they need to grow and achieve their goals.
"We are delighted to have been awarded funding from ERDF and are looking forward to working on the new project."
Participants must be based in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, or in the unitary authorities of Thurrock, Luton or Peterborough to be eligible.
