Accreditation specialist welcomes renewable heat incentive funding 17 November 2010

Accreditation specialist Easy MCS has responded positively to the news that the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) will proceed as planned in 2011.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has confirmed £860 million of funds allocated to the RHI, with further details on consumer rates and terms to follow.

The reason: the coalition government has assessed that RHI gives industry the best chance to meet HM Government's 2020 carbon targets.

Thomas Farquhar, sales manager at Easy MCS, says the renewable industry will welcome this result, because it provides a major boost for innovative, sustainable heat technologies, such as air and ground source heat pumps, and solar thermal panels.

"We support installers through the Government's MCS accreditation process, which, once they are approved, allows them to offer government funding like RHI to consumers," explains Farquhar.

"Since the announcement we have seen a huge surge in visits to our website and our phones lit up with people asking about getting MCS accredited, so they could offer this new renewable heat funding," he says.

"The only challenge the industry is now facing is one of a shortage of MCS accredited and quality installers. With government predictions for installations under the RHI running into several millions, there is going to be a huge shortage of accredited installers at a time of surging demand."
