Davyhulme water treatment project to be captured on camera 10 February 2011

Specialist video firm SeSys is recording construction of a new treatment process at United Utilities' Davyhulme wastewater treatment works.

The project uses innovative process plant, due to be constructed by principal contractor Black & Veatch, currently generating a lot of interest in the industry.

Davyhulme is one of the UK's largest wastewater treatment works and will be able to generate increased electricity from biogas directly from the new process, some of which will be exported to the National Grid. It will also create a sustainable soil improvement product.

Ian Barker, chief engineer - electrical for Black & Veatch, explains that, to chronicle the upgrade, SeSys is providing a wireless network, multiple high resolution Mobotix M24 cameras and a monitoring and recording system.

That will provide remote viewing of all construction, which involves casting a large base ready to receive process equipment – in some cases already assembled. This method allows many more stages of the build process to take place simultaneously.

"The SeSys engineers have configured the Mobotix cameras to record high quality images in a system that has proved extremely reliable, without requiring lots of unnecessary IT equipment on site, protective housings or heaters," comments Barker.
