Novel energy chain increases Jaguar Land Rover uptime 01 March 2013
Jaguar Land Rover is reporting downtime reduced by 66% on one of its factory robots, thanks to equipment from energy chain specialist igus UK.
Triflex RS is a compact, multi-axial energy supply system that safely houses cables, and is claimed to enables manufactures to improve reliability and hence make operational cost savings.
Jaguar Land Rover was experiencing problems caused by a cable management hose, which kept falling into the robot's working range.
igus recommended its Triflex RS six-axis robot energy chain and, since installation, uptime has increased hugely as the module pulls the energy lines back after every movement, keeping the working range free.
Justin Leonard, director at igus, explains that its Triflex RS energy chain is lightweight, cost-effective, has a high torsional stability and a small bend radius and pitch, all of which combine to solve common design problems for applications in confined spaces.
"We are delighted to have worked with Jaguar on this application and achieve such positive results," says Leonard.
"At igus we can provide our customers with technological advances in the robotics industry, enabling them to reduce process costs and with the Triflex RS system, all the requirements from large welding robots to small palletizing robots can be met."
