Michael Portillo to open Endress and Hauser training centre 16 October 2013
Former cabinet minister Michael Portillo is to officially open instrument engineering specialist Endress and Hauser's new application, training and engineering centre next month.
On Friday 8 November, he is scheduled to cut the ribbon on the £650,000 facility, which has been built in the grounds of Endress and Hauser's UK headquarters in Manchester.
"Demand for training in the process engineering industry far outstrips supply," comments Endress and Hauser managing director David Newell.
"That's why we've made this investment to offer bespoke training to both our customers and our staff."
And chairman Hans Peter Endress adds: "As former Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Secretary of State for Employment, Mr Portillo knows what an important role private business plays in shaping the country's prosperity.
"By investing in this training centre we can not only provide a secure future for our staff but hopefully help to secure the future of the industry by attracting more young people into process engineering."
The training centre has been equipped with a 12-seater classroom, fitted with audio-visual equipment, as well as a workshop and operational environment to allow trainees to get 'hands on' with the equipment.
