Manufacturing Technology Centre plumps for Micro-Epsilon sensors 26 June 2012
The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) has taken delivery of a package of non-contact displacement sensors for its high-tech manufacturing and research projects.
The package includes laser optical displacement sensors, 2D and 3D laser profile sensors, eddy current displacement sensors and capacitive sensors, as well as multi-function controllers, set up and configuration software, cabling and connectors.
MTC, based in Ansty Park, Coventry, specialises in net shape manufacturing, intelligent automation, advanced tooling and fixturing, high-integrity electronics manufacturing, modelling and simulation, and high-integrity fabrication.
Ken Young, technology director at the MTC, explains that the sensors will be used primarily by the Tooling & Fixturing division.
"Micro-Epsilon has provided us with an extensive range of high quality sensing equipment, which will be able to support project work across all of our research themes here at the MTC," says Young.
"The sensors ... can be integrated in fixtures to monitor how the fixture changes during manufacturing and how this impacts the final product," he explains.
"They can also support automated manufacturing, inspection and quality control activities, as well as research programmes involved in the development of innovative processes," continues Young.
"Micro-Epsilon has supplied both first class products and engineering expertise, which will contribute in delivering state of the art research."
MTC receives £40.5 million public funding to match the government's manufacturing strategy, which set out an ambitious vision for high-tech manufacturing.
Founder industrial members include Aero Engine Controls, Airbus and Rolls Royce. MTC is currently working with companies across industry, with sectors including aerospace, automotive, rail, healthcare and ICT.
