The contract, which will be managed by Lloyds’ rapidly expanding defence division, will cover over 21,000 pieces of lifting equipment, pressure vessels, cranes, elevators and forklift trucks used at the Portsmouth Naval Base. Lloyds will also carry out statutory inspections of BAE’s lifting equipment at the organisation’s Bahrain site in the Middle East.
Commenting on the contract win, Lloyds British managing director Ryan White said: “We are absolutely delighted at being awarded such a prestigious contract with BAE Systems, and we look forward to working closely with them, ensuring compliance of their equipment within both the Portsmouth Naval Base and their facilities in Bahrain.
“Our contract will cover lifting equipment, pressure vessels and cranes on over eight square miles of real estate and in more than 500 buildings. We will be working closely with the MOD’s compliance department and with the BAE Systems teams which have been set up to manage all of the equipment we will be inspecting under the relevant legislation.
“Our aim is to build on the strong working relationships between all the departments involved on site here in the UK and in the Middle East, and to support BAE Systems’ provision of outstanding technology-led defence, aerospace and security systems to the UK Government.”
