King’s College Hospital plugs into heat recovery14 May 2010
King's College Hospital Trust is to install a Flu-Ace heat recovery system on its heating and hot water system plant.
The system, being supplied by from Thermal Energy International, is costing £303,000 and will be built and installed over the next 20 weeks.
Fergus Sligo Young, assistant engineering manager at King's, explains that the decision to install the system follows success with its GEM condensate return system, installed earlier in the year, also by Thermal Energy.
Improvements expected include a reduction in energy consumption of 8 million kW per year and a corresponding cut in CO2 emissions of 1,564 tonnes of, leading to a payback time for the trust of around 18 months, and contributing well to the 80% emissions reduction mandated by 2050.
"The King's College Hospital Trust looks forward to a close working relationship on this project, after the previous successes with Thermal Energy at this and other hospitals in the UK, as well as internationally," comments Young.
