KEE Process specifies Flender gear units for Northern Ireland19 April 2011

Wastewater treatment plant provider KEE Process says it is specifying Flender gear units, from Siemens Drive Technologies, because of their proven reliability, low maintenance requirements, high torque and low power.

One of KEE's latest UK projects was the installation of modular RBCs (rotating biological contactors), for medium scale treatment. These 4.5 metre units incorporate Flender FZG gear units, combined with Motox units and high-efficiency Siemens eff1 electric motors.

KEE Process contracts engineer Alastair McInnes explains that this combination drive design was selected to achieve high ratios for low-speed operation – around 1rpm output speed – with 4kw power and 63,500Nm gearbox rating.

"We cannot fault these gear units and geared motors," comments McInnes. "Their performance and reliability are very impressive. We also obtain good after-sales service support from Siemens, which is an important part of our contracts for customers all over the world."

KEE Process has subsequently installed a similar plant for another unnamed UK water company. This second project began seven months ago and is currently undergoing final commissioning.
