KDL is equipping its new 18,000 m² warehouse in the Lokeren logistics corridor near Antwerp with a high-performance automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) from Movu Robotics.

Movu Robotics, whose technology already powers the automation in KDL’s existing high-bay warehouse, will play a key role in future-proofing KDL’s logistics operations by delivering an intelligent, and scalable automation solution. The investment is part of a multi-million real estate transaction with WDP and marks the next milestone in the long-standing partnership between KDL and Movu.

At the centre of this new facility will be Movu’s atlas shuttle system, engineered to manage over 22,000 pallet locations in high-density racking, alongside nearly 11,000 conventional positions. The system is compatible with both Europe and Industrial pallets — including those with significant overhang — and designed for heavy-duty handling of up to 1200 kg per unit.

Equipped with a large fleet of Movu autonomous shuttles and several vertical lifts, the warehouse will handle a number of pallets inbound and outbound per hour, controlled by Movu’s proprietary Warehouse Execution Software (Movu OPS). Future scalability has been integrated, allowing KDL to expand throughput as their operational needs evolve.

The facility’s architecture supports both efficiency and flexibility: with a free internal height of 15 meters, 20 loading docks, and a dedicated temperature-controlled cell, the building is suited for cross-docking, diverse product handling, and multi-client operations.

“This project reflects our shared ambition to build infrastructure that grows with the business it serves,” said Jos De Vuyst, CEO of Movu Robotics and its parent company stow Group. “As a company rooted in Lokeren, we are proud to further support KDL on its journey toward the future of warehouse operations. By providing compact, scalable and high-performing automation technology through Movu Robotics, we’re helping KDL to remain agile and competitive in an increasingly dynamic logistics landscape.”

Strengthening a logistics partnership grounded in innovation

This new development builds on the success of KDL’s current automated high bay warehouse which continues to play a central role in the company’s daily operations. By integrating both sites within the same logistics ecosystem, KDL ensures maximum synergies in flow, labour, and IT.

For KDL, the expansion is both timely and strategic. The location, just off the motorway, offers prime access to Belgium’s economic hubs, while the automated infrastructure ensures the agility needed to meet increasingly complex supply chain demands.

“The decision to once again collaborate with Movu was a natural one,” said Kris De Leeneer, CEO of KDL. “We’ve experienced first-hand how their automation enables smarter, more responsive logistics. This next phase will strengthen our capacity to serve customers with speed, precision, and sustainability.”
