Idhammar upgrade keeps Rockwood Pigments in the pink 01 February 2012
The future of Rockwood Pigments' site maintenance operations at Kidsgrove, Stoke-on-Trent, looks bright following its upgrade of the latest version of the Idhammar maintenance management system (CMMS).
The plant, which processes liquid, powder and granulated colour pigments, first installed the system after the site was flooded in 2007, destroying many maintenance and machinery records.
Engineering team leader Peter Richardson says that maintenance engineers at the time resolved to transform the way they work, backing up all data.
The team also used the opportunity to set about cleansing existing records and adding data that would help improve its analysis of key plant assets.
"We had around 3,000 suppliers on record, half of which were out of date and several listed for machines we didn't even use anymore," explains Richardson.
"It was the same with the engineering spares," he adds. "Just eliminating outdated files has improved the efficiency of our asset management."
Commenting on the maintenance system upgrade, Rockwood Pigments IT manager Jonathan Ellis says: "When working with Idhammar Systems, software migrations and upgrades are smooth. It's the way system implementations should be – swift and hassle free."
