Howden screw compressor packages Iraq Waste gas will be recovered and treated to deliver useable fuel gas, saving energy and minimising carbon emissions

Howden is to supply two screw compressor packages to Majnoon oilfield in Iraq that are said to save 42,242 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.

Howden’s screw compressors packages will be installed in Majnoon oilfield’s flare gas recovery system. Waste gas will be recovered and treated to deliver useable fuel gas, saving energy and minimising carbon emissions.

Majnoon oilfield is claimed to hold the equivalent of 38 billion barrels of oil. Howden’s technology is expected to enable site operator Azku Global Services, part of the Khudairi Group, to realise its decarbonisation goals.

Howden chief operating officer Massimo Bizzi said: “Globally, flare gases account for around two percent of carbon emissions, so Howden’s compressor technology is critical to the recovery process.”
