Higher apprenticeship in engineering environmental technologies revealed 25 June 2012
City and Islington College revealed the first of the new Higher Apprenticeship in Engineering Environmental Technologies (HE-EET) on Friday (22 June 2012).
Its scheme, being developed with the New Engineering Foundation and DBIS (the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills) was announced by Business Secretary Vince Cable.
Principal of City and Islington College, Frank McLoughlin CBE, explained that it has been designed to equip people with a broad awareness of environmental technologies and sustainability challenges in manufacturing, construction, energy, logistics etc.
The HA-EET will be a work-based programme, providing skills and qualifications at Level 4, with a claimed good balance between practical, work-related knowledge and the transferable skills needed for a sustainable and rewarding career.
"In uncertain economic times, it is important that we continue to innovate to ensure that the demand for highly qualified staff in expanding industries, such as environmental engineering, is met," said McLoughlin.
Demand from industry is central to the programme and employers will be involved in its development through a pilot year. Starting in January 2013, the HA-EET will operate with an initial 120 people across the country. The course will take two years to complete with additional groups of learners joining at regular intervals.
Features of the programme include: multiple entry routes (including from Level 3 vocational courses, A Levels, HNC or equivalent qualifications/experience); and specialist modules for qualified staff in sectors including energy, construction, logistics and manufacturing.
