Flintec load cells weighs in with new Cardiff HQ 08 November 2011
Swedish load cell manufacturer Flintec has moved into a new UK headquarters in Cardiff as part of its growth plans for the next 10 years.
Flintec UK managing director David Weeks says the move is a prelude to the group – including its R&D labs – moving from Vesteras to the UK, although it will continue to be owned by Sweden's Indutrade Group.
"This is a significant financial undertaking and a long-term commitment," says Weeks. "It underlines our confidence in global markets. We have been seeing growth across virtually all our market sectors."
As part of the expansion, Flintec is investing in a new five-tonne deadweight testing machine, and also plans to bring in a new 25-tonne deadweight testing machine.
In recent years Flintec has seen big increases in business, particularly in Brazil, he says, where the company has enjoyed significant success in the oil industry with its CC1 compression load cells, and in the truck weighing industry with its RC3 devices.
However, Weeks observes that, with manufacturers everywhere under pressure to make machines work harder and faster, against a backdrop of increasing health and safety legislation, there is a fast growing requirement for accurate machine monitoring – which is also driving up load cell usage.
