EEMUA updates NDE technical selection advice 30 June 2014

Non-destructive examination (NDE) is a useful tool for the evaluation of plant and equipment's continuing fitness for service, but it must be used appropriately – particularly where hazardous industries are concerned.

That is the warning from EEMUA (the Engineering Equipment and Materials Users' Association), which has published a new version of EEMUA Industry Information Sheet 1.

Entitled 'Technical selection of NDE techniques when evaluating the mechanical integrity of industrial plant', it provides information aimed to help with evaluating NDE techniques for specific applications.

The new publication establishes that engineers and technicians must understand the limitations of the techniques used, especially when dealing with geometries, environments, materials and access conditions that may differ from previously validated applications.
