EEF launches game-based learning tool to promote health & safety14 September 2018

EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, will launch a new, innovative game-based learning tool at the IOSH conference (17-18 September) that will provide employees with an interactive tool to promote health & safety in the workplace.

The pc and tablet-based tool is an audio-visual experience that can be custom branded and also tailor-made to replicate an exact workplace.

In the game learners are rewarded for speed and accuracy of decision-making as they manage health & safety risks within a simulated work environment. It will also allow individuals and departments to compete against each other to have the best risk assessment and health & safety awareness.

The game also provides employers with insight into areas where further knowledge is required and potential hot spots in the business.

Comments EEF health, safety & sustainability director Steve Jackson: “Integrating games into your training programme is a fun and rewarding route to engaging your workforce – turning what some may see as a dry topic into the talk of the company. Built around a real workplace this new tool is the ideal way to help build a culture of health & safety into the workplace.”

The tool has been used by Fujitsu as part of its international training programme and Simon Head, head of health and safety, EMEIA and Americas, says: “This tool has been the lynchpin of our international training programme. Uptake has far exceeded any other e-based training tools, people are talking and behaviour is changing.”

At the IOSH conference, visitors will have the chance to play the game in the format of Top Gear’s ‘Star in a reasonably priced car’ with the winner with the highest score on the leaderboard being given a Supercar driving experience. EEF will be on stand 44.
