Crane modernisation schemes on the rise: Konecranes 21 March 2014
Lifting equipment giant Konecranes is reporting an ongoing rise in the numbers of crane modernisation programmes across a growing number of industry sectors.
Derek Hicklin, commercial and development manager at Konecranes UK, believes that growth is due to plant operators understanding the need to keep abreast of technical improvements in order to stay competitive by improving productivity.
Conceding that crane modernisation schemes broadly fall into two categories – pre-engineered upgrades and engineered crane modernisations – he says that Konecranes offers upgrades and improvements that can be applied at users' sites.
His advice: when pondering whether to replace or modernise lifting equipment, it is worth keeping in mind the old adage forewarned is forearmed.
"Maintaining or increasing productivity can often be achieved just as effectively through the process of crane modernisation, but before choosing the best course of action, it starts with taking council from specialists such as Konecranes," he says.
