Chubb saves œ3.5 million using infrared monitoring 23 February 2010
Chubb Insurance believes that it has averted losses to its customers' electrical and mechanical assets in excess of œ3.5 million, since starting a non-invasive thermography inspection service in 1997.
Neil MacLeod, risk engineer and Level 2 thermographer, explains that the company's Flir imaging cameras - which now include two P-series top of the range models - are used to survey buildings ranging from municipal, medical and leisure establishments to commercial premises, factories, warehouses and utility sites.
"As well as preventing catastrophic failure, [infrared thermography] also allows us to help the customer minimise downtime and use maintenance resources more effectively," asserts MacLeod.
He also says that the technique now forms a key part of the MasterPackage MetalPro insurance package, aimed at metalworking firms. That product now includes risk reduction services, through infrared condition monitoring.
