Brammer wins major Tata steel MRO contract25 July 2011
Maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) products and services specialist Brammer has secured a major new contract with Tata Steel UK.
The general bearings contract, which is initially for three years, is part of Tata Steel's inventory & stores optimisation project, aimed at reducing total cost of ownership.
Ian Ritchie, managing director of Brammer UK, says the firm will work closely Tata end users across all of its UK manufacturing locations, and also partner with leading bearing manufacturers to optimise technical support, operational performance and cost.
Brammer will provide site-based resource to implement the contract, as well as additional resources to support an inventory management project at all locations during the initial months of the contract.
In addition, he says, Brammer application engineers will assist Tata Steel engineers in the best choice and application of bearings.
"The agreed approach will deliver a strong focus on inventory levels and lead-time management performance, ensuring the right products are in the right place at the right time," states Ritchie.
"In addition, our technical team will provide continuous support to the Tata Steel engineering team to help them achieve production efficiency improvements," he adds.
"This contract is a step change from our normal way of choosing suppliers, with end users being at the forefront of the decision-making process," comments Graham Lewis, senior sourcing lead at Tata Steel, who is responsible for the contract.
"We are confident that the right choice has been made, and working with Brammer will make a significant difference to our cost base."
