Brammer builds up energy cost savings for Hanson 20 February 2014
Construction materials giant Hanson Building Products says it is seeing annual energy cost savings of nearly £24,000 at its brick manufacturing plant at Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire.
The savings wre achieved on a main fan drive following a recommendation by MRO specialist Brammer to install a new energy-efficient Siemens IE3 motor, Poly Chain transmission and Siemens inverter.
These new inclusions to the fan drive would allow the motor speed to be reduced by 10% without compromising output, leading to energy savings of £8,000 per year and payback time of eight months.
However, once that system had been installed, speed reductions of 29% proved possible without impacting airflow, leading to the quoted energy saving of £23,650 per year, with a payback time of less than three months.
"This was an application where Brammer's proactivity and analytical thinking delivered a far bigger saving than we originally believed was achievable," comments Lee Bridge of Hanson Building Products.
"Like all manufacturers, we are always seeking ways to reduce energy consumption and Brammer, through their independent expertise and ability to recommend and supply a full range of energy efficient products, have a major role to play in that."
As well as delivering huge cost and efficiency savings to Hanson Building Supplies, this solution offered by Brammer won the Sustainability Category at British Precast's Precast 2013 Awards.
