The new patent-pending GenFree range is based on the company’s solar-powered rain-harvesting Deep Green range of mobile and static welfare. They have been enhanced with advanced solar-harvesting capacity via an extendable solar array on the roof and additional damage-resistant solar panels on the front and side walls of the cabins.
Boss Cabins managing director James Kearsey commented: “After 18 months collating data from the significant fleet of Deep Green cabins that are on use on sites all over the country and seeing the phenomenal results they were achieving, we saw the potential to extend the solar technology we were using and create a cabin that could power all its electrical operations 12 months of the year without the need to have a back-up generator on board at all.
“We’ve developed the concept using a 12ft unit as we knew this would be the hardest unit to make work with limited space for solar panels and a relatively high user count compared to its size. And we’ve tested it during the darkest winter months when least solar is available. In one of our biggest R&D investments ever, we built a fleet of 30 x GenFree test cabins which were deployed on key sites around the country with prestige Tier 1 companies.
“Although we knew in theory we were onto a winner, in real-life testing, we have been blown away by the results, with all cabins operating perfectly throughout the winter trial. Couple this with the fact even our standard Deep Green range ran for approx. 9 months of 2022 with no generator runtime, and we are entirely confident in this game-changing generator-free leap forward in sustainable mobile welfare.”
Boss Cabins’ head of customer experience Sarah Butcher added: “This new generation of generator-free welfare has enormous implications for welfare users, owners and hirers alike. Welfare users will be able to enjoy a 100% silent welfare cabin experience on site with no generator noise at all ever. Plus local on-site emissions will be at a minimum - the only emissions produced are from the low-consumption HVO-fuelled heater which will only be used in the winter and only consumes 0.25 litres of fuel per hour.
“Welfare owners will eliminate all generator-related servicing costs and welfare hirers will feel the financial benefit of virtually fuel-free operation with the only fuel used being in the heater which will not be in use for many months of the year. Plus due to the remote monitoring system installed in the cabins, they have the ability to track and report on the significant reductions they will be making in their carbon footprint.”
The Boss Cabins’ Deep Green GenFree range is available in both mobile and static format with cabins from 12ft up to 32ft in size.
