Bio-thermic digester set to slash organic waste-to-landfill 25 March 2014
British environmental technologies specialist Advetec says it has achieved an industrial scale bio-thermic digester capable of eliminating the practice of organic waste (solid and liquid) going to landfill.
Advetec chief executive Craig Shaw says it has been designed to rapidly process and significantly reduce high volumes of municipal waste ii in fact achieving 97% reduction by volume within 72 hours.
He says it can turn tonnes of municipal co-mingled waste, food and industrial liquid waste quickly into distilled water and a dry powdery by-product, to be sold as high quality, dry, fast-burning RDF (refuse derived fuel).
The new containerised plant is the result of eight years' development and each unit is capable of converting 33 tonnes of organic waste over a 48 to 72 hour period.
"With our new industrial sized Bio-Thermic Digesters we can make zero organic waste to landfill a reality," insists Shaw.
"We can turn co-mingled waste and anaerobic digestate into a valuable resource. And, since our digesters require little electricity to run, on site processing costs are around £1.99 per tonne."
Shaw believes the savings on vehicle movements alone will sell the plant to industry. He reckons a realistic ROI is within 16—18 months.
