Baileys toasts Brammer for 16 per cent cut in maintenance costs 09 September 2014
Baileys, of Irish Cream fame, is reporting a 16% cost reduction at its manufacturing plant in Dublin since starting a partnership agreement with MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) specialist Brammer.
"After one year, cost savings were at 16%, but the additional benefits that Brammer's expertise brings is where it's really made an impression," comments Chris Byrne, engineering maintenance manager for Diageo Baileys.
Byrne gives the example of Brammer providing an on-site specialist, available whenever needed for queries, technician training on vibration analysis equipment, etc.
"Brammer has also supported us as we have transitioned from reactive to proactive maintenance," he says.
All production-critical parts for Baileys' six production lines and three processing plants are now held in the stores, with an automatic reorder system in place, he adds.
And he says that, by removing dead stock identified by Brammer, Baileys has reduced cash tied up in MRO products by 20%.
Beyond that, Brammer also introduced an OEM part substitution scheme, leading to cost savings through sourcing parts directly for Baileys, and hence cutting out the middle man.
And Byrne Brammer also points to Brammer implementation of an 'urgency system', with parts now couriered to site where required, to ensure Baileys meets its manufacturing targets.
