ABB to help increase production efficiency for Century Cement in India21 August 2012

Century Cement has placed an order worth $18 million with ABB for plant modernisation at its Manikgarh cement plant in central India, due to go live within 18 months.

The order includes design, engineering and supply of integrated automation and electrification systems aimed at doubling local production capacity and providing dedicated power to reduce the impact on the local grid.

ABB's delivery is part of a two-line expansion and plant upgrade project that will add capacity of 2.8 million tons of cement per year. The project also includes a 60 MW thermal power plant onsite.

"Our experience in executing large and complex projects, minerals and cement industry expertise and automation and power technologies helped us to secure this important order," comments Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB's Process Automation division.

"This modernisation and expansion project will help the customer meet increasing the local demand for its product, while improving the overall efficiency of its production process, and stability of its electricity supply."

ABB will deliver integrated power and automation systems using a plant-wide 800xA automation system to control, connect, and optimise all processes and systems.

Scope of supply includes medium-voltage switchgear, distribution transformers and other electrical equipment and power systems, intelligent low-voltage motor control centers, variable-speed drives, instrumentation, and production management systems.
