Maintec NEC Boccard UK oil changes

Maintec returns to the NEC 8-9 June, with two days of conference presentations in two theatres, and more than 50 exhibitors. Products, organised alphabetically by selected exhibitors, are profiled below

Boccard UK (B28) offers the BocLube system for oil changes at height, or in places that can’t be reached easily. It is able to change oil up to a height of 100m. Boccard’s BocPredict is a maintenance solution based on Industrial IoT sensors and machine learning algorithms. The solution is said to enable foresight of failures and prevent them before they happen.

DCO Systems (E34) offers a monitoring solution for pipework networks that functions without batteries or the need for contractors to install power and data cabling. The self-powered sensors are preconfigured to the characteristics of the pipework and can be installed and deployed throughout the system. In most process and plant installations, pipework needs to be monitored for current performance factors (process and fluid temperatures, pressures). Pipework that runs inside and underground (tunnel corridors) provides the conditions for pipework surface temperatures to be utilised and is said to be suitable for a thermal harvesting solution. Outside and above-ground networks are obvious candidates to utilise the solar harvesting solution. Such installations also benefit from more detailed physical monitoring of safety and process critical pipework sections.

Fluke Reliability (E57) offers a remote condition monitoring service. The company says that Fluke Reliability and Pruftechnik, part of the Fluke Reliability family, help tackle challenges from start to finish. “From implementation, configuration, reporting, analysis, diagnosis, vibration training and even corrective services, we can create custom solutions,” it says.

Gruetzner (B22) offers G-LUBE VIB, which is connected to a vibration sensor that is mounted using a magnet. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted infinitely. During operation, the G-LUBE VIB only lubricates in accordance with the entered settings if the sensor registers vibrations. This guarantees optimum lubrication even on machines that are not used regularly. All functions are visible at all times on the built-in display. G-LUBE VIB is available in the model versions 60, 125 and 250ml. The reusable, electromechanical drive is identical for all models. All the parts, including the sensor cable, are available separately.

SafetyCulture (UK) (J62) is promoting iAuditor, said to be a simpler way to get the information you need to drive safety, quality, and efficiency, all in the one place. The solution provides a means to gain visibility and insights into raising safety and quality standards across an organisation, as well as to collect consistent data, standardise operations, send reports, identify failed areas, and get problems resolved with this checklist software. With data from inspections, sensors, incidents and observations in one place, users can build trend analysis that helps identify both problem areas and opportunities.

SJ Electronics (J32) is promoting the FieldFox Handheld RF and microwave analyser. Up to 22 software-enabled measurement capabilities are available in one portable, battery-powered unit. Frequency coverage up to 54GHz is available. The device can be configured as a cable and antenna analyzer (CAT), vector network analyser (VNA), spectrum analyser, or an all-in-one combination analyser.

Smartia (E73) offers MAIO software to connect and manage industrial assets. “Our edge devices and software provides a plug-and-play approach to digitising assets and supports industrial protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT, Profinet,” it says. MAIO provides granular control over access permissions to help users control who can access what. It provides tools to contextualise data across multiple different sources and visualise information in a meaningful format, says Smartia. MAIO comes with an integrated machine learning (ML) infrastructure to deploy and operationalise artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, and use those algorithms to drive insights as well build AI powered smart applications.

SSG Insight (EMEA) Ltd (A47) offers Agility CMMS asset and maintenance software. It says that the software offers the ability for maintenance teams to carry out useful tasks including: generating work orders, assigning work orders, scheduling maintenance, ensuring parts are stocked, maximising labour, monitoring trends and producing reports.

TPI Europe (B40) provides the 9034 and 9038 analysers for fixed or online vibration monitoring. They feature up to eight accelerometer inputs, eight digital outputs, eight analogue outputs, temperature and tacho inputs as well as USB and Ethernet connectivity. The analysers can be used in several different ways, including standalone operation, legacy systems operation, PC operation and C-Trend II.

WD-40 Specialist (C30) comprises nine individual products: silicone, white lithium grease, spray grease. dry PTFE, contact cleaner, degreaser, cutting oil, PTFE and penetrant. In addition, WD-40’s MUP will also be on display, or to be specific, its innovative flexible applicator. Thanks to its pliable ‘straw’ that can be weaved around obstacles and threaded through the tightest of gaps, the tube is said to ensure that the right amount of solution hits exactly the right spot every time.

BOX: THE EVOLUTION OF CONDITION MONITORING AND ITS IMPACT ON INDUSTRY HIRING

With remote condition monitoring, organisations can make significant progress towards cost efficiencies and decreased downtime. They can also attract new talent that will help drive positive change company-wide, according to Distence (B35).

Condition monitoring is a knowledge-driven role now that remote monitoring is becoming more common. The discipline offers promising futures for people with technical, mathematical, and mechanical aptitude.

Advances in remote applications that demand more technical skills could improve the industrial skills gap. In addition, new graduates with university degrees in mathematics, engineering, physics, or programming may find an appealing fit in manufacturing or process industry roles they may not have considered in the past.

Increasing adoption levels of remote condition monitoring can dramatically improve how you maximise machine health. You can make significant gains in keeping production levels at optimal levels while reducing expensive downtime.

Remote condition monitoring offers manufacturing and process industries the opportunity to cut costs and decrease downtime, as well as attract a new generation of skilled technical workers. Distence claims to offer unique and customisable solutions to bring new efficiency to remote condition monitoring while also supporting organisational changes.

BOX: THE NINE QUESTIONS YOU NEED TO ASK WHEN BUYING ROBOTS

Warehouse automation is a major step for any business, so it is important for them to know that they are working with the right people, and asking the right questions. To distinguish real automation providers from simple robotics resellers, Wise Robotics (F58) offers the nine questions below as a supplier checklist.

  • What can your robots do?
  • Can I see the robots in action?
  • How long does it take to install the robots?
  • How customisable are your robots?
  • What integrations can you offer?
  • What KPIs can you monitor?
  • What supplementary technology do you offer?
  • What technical support can you offer?
  • Is your automation scaleable?
  • Operations Engineer
