World’s first intrinsically safe thermal imager, at Maintec 06 March 2013

Maintec (this week's specialist maintenance exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham) saw the launch of the world's first intrinsically safe radiometric thermal imaging camera, for use directly in classified hazardous areas without a flameproof enclosure.

TC7000, from CorDex Instruments, provides plant engineers with the means to conduct infrared inspections in Zone 1 explosive environments without hot work permits.

And, thanks to the inclusion of RFID technology and built-in audio recording, all findings can be tagged to a location and accurately documented.

CorDex's new IS thermal camera is ATEX and IECEx certified for Zone 1 IIC T4.

Very low voltage and current are implicit in its high safety rating, but CorDex says it achieved this without any compromise on performance.

In brief detail, the device offers a colour 3.2in backlit LCD display, joystick navigation and an ATM-style keypad for quick access to shortcuts. It has also been fitted with a high resolution 320x240 un-cooled detector and covers the temperature range -20°C to +600°C.
