Vibration analyser speeds and simplifies Kimberley Clark’s maintenance 10 October 2013
Faster and easier routine maintenance at Kimberly Clark's Loudon, Tennessee, USA paper mill is said to have been achieved, thanks to Emerson's CSI 2140 machinery health analyser.
After testing the vibration analyser for several weeks, the plant has reported speedier maintenance routes, easier and more rapid data analysis and a more comfortable user experience.
"It's very quick, especially with slow speed equipment," says Dennis Keaton, maintenance mechanic at the paper mill. "We run 1,200 to 1,300 points per week, so the speed of setting up and taking readings is very important."
The CSI 2140 incorporates vibration, balancing, temperature, trends and motor diagnostic tools. An integrated analysis tool is claimed to provide a complete picture of asset reliability.
Nathan Pettus, vice president of Emerson's machinery health management business, states that complex machinery problems can be diagnosed best by using four-channel vibration analysis.
The firm adds: "Embedded intelligence guided Kimberly Clark technicians through testing and analytics. Even less experienced technicians could confidently monitor and diagnose equipment issues with minimal training."
Kimberly Clark makes around 8,400 measurements per month and the smaller size of its analyser is claimed to have made routes more comfortable. Measurements in dark areas of the mill are also said to be easier, thanks to the instrument's bright screen.
