UK industry could save 16.5m kWh of energy on VSD compressors 27 March 2012
Compressed air equipment manufacturer Atlas Copco reckons its research shows that UK Industry could save more than 16.5 million kWh of energy this year (2012) by using its energy efficient variable speed drive compressors.
The claim, it says, is based on typical 25% average saving on energy, and 4,000 running hours per annum when a VSD compressor is compared to a fixed speed compressor. It also claims that the planet would see a reduction in CO2 emissions of just under 9 million kg.
"VSD technology has been in use for many years, and has consistently proven its effectiveness in a number of different compressed air applications," comments Paul Clark, business line manager at Atlas Copco's UK Industrial Air Division.
"Despite this, many businesses are still not using VSD compressors, even with the availability of affordable funding options," he continues.
"Our newly released figures clearly demonstrate the significant energy saving potential of VSD compressor technology and the lucrative capital and carbon savings they provide to UK businesses."
Interestingly, Atlas Copco's announcement follows hard on the heels of the company's ranking (by World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland) as the world's 10th most sustainable company in the Global 100 list.
