Speedy places £3 million excavator order with JCB 11 January 2012
Plant rental specialist Speedy has purchased £3.3 million worth of JCB 8018 mini excavators, the biggest order that JCB received for the model in the past 12months.
Speedy says it bougtht the plant to look after customers in the utilities sector, which include Thames Water and Welsh Water.
Andy Connor, supply chain director at Speedy, points to JCB's work on the 8018, which includes the provision of safety features, such as a steel panel in place of the lower door window to reduce glass damage, to the cab, and a weight sensitive seat that only allows the machine to be driven when the operator is properly seated.
Speedy, he says, also liked the extending undercarriage, which offers additional stability for operators working in conditions where the ground is unstable. And he cites the 19hp engine, which means more power and productivity.
"JCB designed this piece of equipment in collaboration with the utilities sector, so procuring it for our customers was a natural step and we expect it to be very popular," states Connor.
