Semta’s Sarah Sillars stands down in December 09 September 2014
Sarah Sillars OBE is to stand down as CEO of the engineering skills service Semta at the end of December this year (2014) as chief operating officer Ann Watson steps into her shoes.
"Semta has transitioned itself, post government funding, to provide solutions that are employer-led and co-funded with the government [under BIS (Department for Business, Innovation and Skills)]," states Sillars.
"We are now better equipped with the right structure and skilled personnel ... to provide the service that employers need to satisfy their demands and build for the future in an exciting market place... I believe that the timing is right to hand over the responsibilities of continuing this transition to Ann Watson."
"Sarah has professionally led Semta through this important transition phase, with energy, inspiration and skill to bring about the fundamental changes that were required," comments Semta chairman, Allan Cook CBE, chairman of Atkins, Selex ES and Finmeccanica UK.
"I am eternally grateful to Sarah for leading this programme... I am, however, delighted to announce that our current chief operating officer Ann Watson has accepted the challenge to lead Semta as our chief executive."
Semta, which represents 138,000 companies with a combined annual turnover of over £300 billion in the engineering and advanced manufacturing sector, plays a pivotal role in ensuring that companies have the appropriate skills to satisfy increased level of demand in a growing market.
