High power gearboxes provide improved control for dynamic motors11 July 2017
As motor technology is becoming ever more sophisticated and dynamic so is the need for improved gearbox technology to keep pace with developments to help machine builders exploit the benefits of more power and more flexible control.
Additionally, in some situations motors are driven to their upper most limits of their capability due to factors such as reduced available space. A good example of this is with AGV’s (Automatic Guide Vehicles).
In response to these challenges motion control specialists Dunkermotoren have expanded their range of gearboxes with the PLG 63 HP, PLG 75 HP and PLG 95 HP. These have been specifically developed to provide high nominal torque of up to 160 Nm and acceleration torque of up to 320 Nm. Among the challenges they focused on is surge loads which can occur in emergency stops, misuse or through vandalism in public facing applications. Even under the pressures of occasional load peaks of up to 480 Nm these new gearboxes remain undamaged and continue to operate normally.
Saving space is often a key objective for machine builders and these new gearbox options ensure a very compact drive & gearbox solution. These planetary gearboxes are designed so that they do not require any coupling or flange to be mounted to the motor which results in the drive length being reduced to an absolute minimum. When tooth motor shafts are utilised, one stage gearboxes can be achieved with a reduction ratio of 14, 5:1.
