Euro 6 engine developers join expert panel at IRTE conference 17 July 2012
Experts from Iveco, Scania, Cummins and Delphi Diesel will be joining Andrew Nicol, technical specialist for heavy-duty engines at world-renowned Ricardo, for the IRTE conference 2012 session on Euro 6 engine designs.
The conference, being staged at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, on 13 September 2012, is for transport engineers and fleet managers, and will assess new and cost-saving technologies aimed at improving operations challenging times.
The Euro 6 emissions panel will address the engineering issues and mainstream solutions – as well as the cost, weight, fuel consumption and maintenance implications – now that Euro 6 compliant heavy-duty diesel truck engines are entering production.
Other speakers at the conference include: Catherine Crouch, group CRS director at Howard Tenens; Nick Elliott, national transport manager with Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete; Darren O'Donnell, logistics asset manager at Coca-Cola Enterprises; Paul Wreaves, operations director at ETS Distribution; and David Cebon, Professor of mechanical engineering at Cambridge University and research director at the leading Cambridge Vehicle Dynamics Consortium.
Crouch, Elliott and O'Donnell say they will be explaining their quite different choices of gas and multi-fuel (CNG/diesel and LPG/diesel) engines for their haulage and distribution operations.
Delegates will hear how and why Howard Tenens, Lafarge and Coca-Cola Enterprises are achieving sustainable cost savings, while also improving their green credentials. They will also learn about the upfront costs and useful solutions.
Meanwhile, ETS' Wreaves says he will discuss what lies behind the success of his operation's telematics project, which is delivering mouth-watering savings, as a result of seriously improved fuel usage and reduced vehicle maintenance.
Meanwhile, Professor Cebon will describe latest developments and trials with electronic and mechanical vehicle suspension, steering and stability systems for the DfT's longer trailers trial that are set to improve everything from safety to manoeuvrability – with some surprising cost-saving potential.
The conference keynotes will be delivered by Beverley Bell, Senior Traffic Commissioner, and Alistair Peoples, chief executive of VOSA.
Conference sponsors are: Bullwell Trailers, Carweb, CJC, Disc-Lock, G-Volution, MAN, Mix Telematics, PFS Fueltec, Pirelli, Valeo, Varta and Volvo. All will be on hand to explain their technology and service offerings.
