Emerson and Rttech agree to improve energy management data 04 February 2014
Emerson Process Management is to work with Canadian software firm RtTech Software to develop an energy management information system capable of delivering real-time monitoring, analysis and detection of plant excesses.
Peter Zornio, chief strategic officer at Emerson, says the new collaborative venture represents the next step in improving industrial energy utilisation.
It will be based on RtTech's RtEMIS platform coupled with Emerson's process models, focusing on what Zornio sees as three critical data points: design energy consumption, real usage over time and current consumption.
"From Emerson's perspective, teaming with RtTech Software made great sense," states Zornio.
"Their field-proven RtEMIS product already offers a lot of the functionality we were looking for ... and is built on top of the OSIsoft PI System, the enterprise historian of choice for a majority of our customers."
Zornio makes the point that most energy management systems are designed to allocate energy costs at the end of the month, rather than monitoring energy in real time and doing the analysis to compare it against benchmarks.
Emerson's energy management information system dashboards and reports will increase the visibility of site energy metrics, providing performance-improvement tools to users from field operators to plant management, he predicts.
