200 engineering and maintenance jobs at Nissan Sunderland 27 July 2011

Nissan, the UK's largest auto maker, has launched a recruitment campaign for engineers and maintenance technicians to join its record-breaking Sunderland Plant.

Some 200 positions need to be filled to support current record production, the introduction of electric vehicle technology to the UK at its new battery plant, and two new vehicles, due to be produced Sunderland Plant – the all electric LEAF and the next generation Qashqai.

The scale of this recruitment campaign is such that Nissan has produced a website for prospective employees, providing details of all the jobs and information about its Sunderland plant.

"These new recruits will play a key role not only in maintaining our record production levels, but in making sure that our battery plant and future new models are introduced successfully," states Kevin Fitzpatrick, Nissan vice president for manufacturing in the UK.

And he adds that Nissan, as one of the founding UK companies in the UK's Talent Retention Solution (TRS), will be looking to match a number of its job opportunities with skilled engineers facing redundancy from the defence sector.

Posts currently being advertised include production engineers, facility engineers, QA engineers, press die maintenance technicians, battery tooling technicians and facilities maintenance technicians.
